Regeneration is an idea whose time has come. The most forward looking leaders across the world in our businesses, in our communities, in our public services are discovering the wisdom born of thirty years of successful regenerative practice* to realise there is a new route towards thriving.

For People and Planet together.

I will help you discover the value and potential that lies in putting your customers, citizens, beneficiaries’ own desire to thrive and create value in their own lives and context, at the heart of your strategy.

This approach derives from a deep understanding of how Nature works, the fundamental principles that enable growth, and create thriving ecosystems.

I will support you on a structured journey to reframe what you offer, how you source what you offer, and to build into your offer or product the attributes that will bring to life not only your potential, but the potential of those you serve.

This is the lesson Nature is trying to teach us.

For business this means stepping into the customer’s shoes not simply with the empathy familiar to ‘design thinking’ but deeply understanding a customer’s potential, and developing for them a value promise for their own customer, or their life through the product or service offering, beyond the value they might currently think possible.

For communities this means creating a story of place – surfacing with local people the patterns that have given this town, area or city its unique character over time – and appreciating this place is nested within a wider whole, a wider region with which it is interdependent. Through discovering the patterns that make it a place people are drawn to and that make it economically viable, this process reveals the untapped potential and the end state that could unfold if this potential could be realised. This becomes a north star for guiding community development, and regeneration.

For the public sector this means supporting public agencies to create the conditions for a whole community to flourish. I will support your convening role, helping you lead a transforming engagement at scale so that a powerful and inspiring ‘story of place’ can emerge. This is not a ‘visioning’ and wishful thinking exercise. It emerges from the core of what people care about. And if the topic is our planetary emergency, then we go beyond ‘sustainability’: beyond the paradigm of doing less bad, of ‘arresting disorder’ in the system towards supporting the unfolding of its potential to ‘regenerate’ itself within safe and just planetary thresholds.

*I’m indebted here to my training with the pioneers of regenerative practice, Regenesis Group in the U.S. They have been blazing a solitary trail for several decades.

To cherish what remains of the Earth and to foster its renewal is our only legitimate hope of survival….

Wendell Berry

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.
